When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes

I've been thinking about what I'm going to do for each of my 5 pages.
While browsing through blogs I am seeing more and more window displays. This has given me the idea of hand drawing some Supremes lyrics, photocopying them onto acetate, then projecting them onto a wall and photographing them. Although this isn't quite a window display I feel it's a good way of working in a larger way than normal.

Shonagh Rae

I really like Rae's use of colour and shape. I especially like the image below, I think the placement of the hands and type work really well together. I'm going to try and do some print work when I get the chance to use the room.

Carboot Sunday

Today has been just marvellous. The weather is beautiful in Bournemouth today. Clear blue sky. I went to a car boot with some course mates, and I must say it was the best!!
I got a polaroid camera, a film camera, a pair of shoes AND a fur coat, all for £3!! I cannot think of a better way to cure a night without sleep.

Here are my purchases.

Group Meeting

We had a tutorial with Sharon today and spoke about what we plan to do as our group project. We had previously mentioned making a zine, however we thought it was better to say we planned to create an artist book, as we felt this would give us more leeway as to what we did for each page and we wouldn't have to worry about each page necessarily being 2-D or too lo-fi. We have thought about making the book into a record size, reflecting the time of The Supremes fame.
After our tutorial we discussed what we each wanted to do, and came to the conclusion that the girls wanted to do the glamourous side (eeek!!) and the boys wanted to look more into the political side surrounding The Supremes at the time of their fame.
This works just fine for me :) I think I'm going to look into some of their songs I like the most and think about how I can portray the text within a set page size.

Sharon also mentioned looking at Shonagh Rae for her screen prints as we expressed some interest in print making.

Zine Time

We have thought about creating a zine within in our group. I have to say I am quite sceptical of zines, purely because I wouldn't want it to look cheap. Although that said I have seen some beautiful zines, and am lucky enough to own one from the collective Love To Print.
Here are some pictures of this wonderful zine.

This is some more type work by Gemma Correll.

These are some photos of a beautiful zine, and other works, by an artist called Jen Collins. A friend of mine showed me her work and I have fallen in love.

Type Type Type

I've always had a thing about type. I really do love it. So I'm pretty excited about working with it for this brief. These are some artists who inspire me for their work with type.
